Drink Chia, What's Shakin'?

Get to Know the Founders: 8 Things About the Chia Doc!

Dr. Gideon J. Lewis, Drink Chia co-founderThis week we’re continuing to take you inside the lives and minds of our co-founders.  A few weeks ago we chatted with our resident trainer, Mark.

This week,  our very own Chia Doc, Dr. Gideon J. Lewis, tells you 8 things you may not know about his typical day and who inspires him most.

Describe your typical day.

There is never consistency from day to day,  with the exception of a full schedule of patients.   A typical day can involved meetings about Drink Chia!, working with professional athletes, mentoring medical students, performing late night surgeries, and consulting with medical companies.  This variety is one of the best aspects of my life!

With this hectic pace, I do commit to a morning routine that keeps me sane.  Immediately after waking up, I head to my bedroom window and to get a glimpse of what Mother Nature brought me.

This is followed by my “ME” time of a prayer and five minutes of quiet reflection.  I usually eat a quick breakfast (some type of protein, fruit, and a Drink Chia!) while I read emails and compose the  day’s “to do” list.

Regardless of how late I finish with patients,  I usually go for a four-to-six mile run or do a one  hour workout.  I end my day with a light dinner and catch up on sports highlights.  Are you surprised I’m a sports junkie?

I did not realize how different the food and beverage industry is compared to the medical field.  The concept of knowing that most food/beverage companies spend most of their money  toward marketing versus the quality of their products is still difficulty for me to grasp.  I am so proud of our Drink Chia! team on sticking to the foundation on which we established this company by utilizing only the very best ingredients.

What one tip do you have for beginning entrepreneurs?

You will learn more from your mistakes than your successes.  Surround yourself with as many successful people as possible.  Chandra and Mark are amazing partners.  We all bring different elements to Drink Chia!, but our shared vision of delivering the most nutritional health products in a fun way remains unchanged.

What is your favorite health/fitness trend right now?

Triathlons.  While most people know about this sport, it is still one of the fastest growing sports.   I love the entire concept of an endurance cross-training sport.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Las Vegas beach club parties.  That’s all I’ll say about that.

What is the last book you read and do you recommend it?

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.

What one person has influenced your life most?

That’s a tough one!  I’m a product of so many influences by hundreds of people.  So with the exception of my parents, siblings, amazing teachers (Michelle Nash, Coach Rodney Fulbright, Dr. Budd Berringer…), exceptional physicians (Dr. Thomas Chang, Dr. William Olson, Dr. Manny Perez…), and lots of close friends,  I would say the TWO most influential people in my professional life have been Dr. Zac Haas (medical school roommate) and Ron Scarpa.

Zac taught me how to attack my fears and most importantly, to always welcome the opportunity to succeed.

I met Ron Scarpa early in my career and I consider him to be one of my closest friends.  He is a walking example that relationships and life experiences are more valuable than dollar bills.

If you could be doing anything in the world right now, what would it be?

At this moment, I would be snow skiing.  Living in sunny Florida, I make every attempt to hit the slopes and enjoy the mountains and snow at least once a year.
